STATEMENT
My work investigates allegorical themes integrated in with representation of symbolism through nature and mythology. I feel that sometimes emotive work can be taken too literally, so the use of animals or bugs intends to approach difficult themes with comedy, beauty, strangeness, and of course symbolism. My process uses stream of consciousness, memories, and current or historical events. I research many books, travel and learn about cultures and others experiences. I explore religion, political views, social views, and subcultures. I am specifically interested in mapping the psychological effects of these events, retold through the imagery layered in my work. Sometimes it is comedic upon approach, but with further gestation, one can find influences of darker, more real political and social issues. The physical materials of my work include charcoal, acrylic, inks and airbrush on soft linens, canvas or paper. This is however not limited to 2 dimensional work, as I also work in mediums such as video or sculpture.
